Water main break in Stratford Center

Update: Aquarion Water Spokesman Peter Fazekas said at 3:35 p.m that water service has been restored to the 30 customers who were out of service. Fazekas said it appears the main break was caused by a crack. Those cracks occur, he said, during changes in weather.

Original story: A major water main break on Saturday morning in Stratford Center will force Main Street to close for several hours.

A water main on Main Street between West Broad Street and Broadbridge Avenue broke at sometime before 7:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Peter Fazekas, a spokesman for Aquarion Water Company. The break was reported at about 10 a.m. and approximately 30 customers are out of power. Fazekas said two dentist offices are affected as well as a day care center that was closed.

Stratford Police said on Twitter that Main Street will be closed between Linden Avenue and East Broadway due to the repairs on the water main.

Fazekas said repairs should be completed by 4 to 6 p.m.
