Tran a fighter who will serve 1st District well

To the Editor:

My family and I have lived in Stratford for 15 years. Our daughter graduated from Bunnell High School. I am writing in support of Bieu Tran, the next councilman for Stratford’s First District.

We were proud of Bieu’s government and civic engagements as a young man. Working with Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and local elected officials, Bieu coordinated efforts to obtain recognition for the Little Asia neighborhood as a historic district. Bieu is a passionate leader who took the initiative to lead many programs benefiting local residents and small businesses, such as the Little Asia Historic Business District and the Little Asia Lunar Festival, attracting more than $125,000 in grants to the district. I worked closely with Bieu to implement public safety improvements and street paving initiatives in the area. Bieu is a fighter and he will fight for small businesses in Stratford through his tax abatement program and holding the line on town taxes.

As Bieu takes the next step in his career to become our town councilman, the Asian-American community stands proudly beside him. The next time you visit an Asian-owned business in town, ask about Bieu and the history of our community. We are proud to be Asian and we are equally proud to be American. Members of our community serve as police officers, first responders, teachers, union workers and as proud members of the United States armed forces. We owe a great debt to America and public service is a way for us to serve the country we love. On Nov. 7, we hope the people of Stratford will give Bieu Tran a chance to continue our community’s public service to the Town and indeed to our nation.
