The Stratford High cross country team traveled to Great Hollow Lake Field Park in Monroe’s Wolfe Park to take on the Pomperaug Panthers and the Masuk Panthers on Tuesday.

It would be Pomperaug’s day for sure, as they took 13-of-15 spots and 16-of-20.

The thirteen were sandwiched between the overall winner, Masuk’s Andrew Whitney (17:58), and No. 15, Masuk’s Ed Lucano (19:32). Pomperaug’s Robby More, who took second, led his team in a time of 18:29.

Stratford’s Manny Cruz was 16th overall in a time of 19:39.  Number 18 in a field of 78 finishers was Stratford’s Ryan Duffy with a time of 19:56.

Stratford’s Jesse Fabrizio overtook Pomperaug’s Luke Bunosso in the race’s final 100 yards with a time of 21:54. Stratford’s Wil Das cruised in at 22:02.

Stratford’s Rory Cooper was able to pass Masuk’s Ben Thompson at the finish line in a time of 22:47.10 to Thompson’s 22:47.21.

Stratford’s Ross Bodington came from 20 yards back in the last 100 yards to edge out Masuk’s Matt Mitola by nineteen one hundredths of a second with a time of 22:52.31.

Julian Pilla continues to improve finishing in a time of 23:20, Tanner Mitchell at 24:28, Erik Flores at 25:15, Juan Alvarez, who is battling minor injuries, came in at 25:47.

Stratford’s Zach Shaham and Paul Ducanson were out of the lineup due to illness and look to rejoin the team later this week.

Dan Shaefer is recovering from a health issue and is about three weeks away from his return to action.

Final scores: Pomperaug 15, Stratford 50; Masuk 21, Stratford 34.
