Boys basketball: Notre Dame defeats Bunnell Bulldogs

Notre Dame of Fairfield stopped every comeback bid by Bunnell High when the Lancers defeated the visiting Bulldogs, 65-52, in SWC boys basketball action on Friday.

Notre Dame (14-2) took a 20-12 lead after one period. Bunnell (8-9) twice cut the deficit in half only to see the Lancers rally back to go to the half in charge 32-26.

Notre Dame owned the third quarter by a 17-7 margin to lead 49-33.

Its advantage moved to 56-36 before Bunnell began to make some three-point baskets.

Joshua Vasquez, Nick Nolting and Brett Bogdwicz had treys, and Kwann Geer a three-point play, to get the Bulldogs within 10 points at the 3:31 mark of the final period.

ND’s Woodley Monnexant had a steal off an outlet pass that led to a Jesse McIntosh layup with 2:21 remaining. Monnexant then made four straight free throws to up the ante back to 17.
