Boys basketball: Notre Dame tops Bunnell in overtime

Notre Dame of Fairfield’s Kyle Federici made a layup with no time left on the clock when the Lancers defeated Bunnell High, 67-66, in an overtime boys basketball decision to decide the SWC Tip-off championship in Waterbury on Monday night.

Bunnell’s Rashaad Spain hit two free throws with 4.5 left in the extra session to put the Bulldogs on top. Spain finished with 31 points for coach Pat Yerina’s Bulldogs (1-1).

Nori Davis led coach Vin Laczkoski’s Lancers (2-0) with 20 points. Jesse McIntosh scored 16 and Jordan Pettway 12.

Bunnell led 18-16 after one quarter; Notre Dame 37-32 at the half. It was 53-45 ND after three quarters. Bunnell took the final period 13-5 to force overtime.

Zyhaire Fernandes and Brett Bogdwicz each scored 10 points for Bunnell, which shot 13-for-24 from the foul line. Notre Dame was 14 for 26.
