Grace Lutheran Church celebrates four decades of its Country Store

Grace Lutheran Church, 150 Chapel Street, Stratford, is celebrating four decades of its Country Store Fair and Tag Sale Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9-4.

Church members are busy preparing new foods, gift baskets and gathering books and collectibles for the tag sale. ”

Admission is free and there’s plenty of parking. Everyone is invited to stop by, have fun and socialize.

“We nearly sold out of our baked goods last year,” said Marj Bradford and JoAnne Sperka. “This year, come early to get your favorites. Our talented bakers are creating up a variety of cakes, pies, cookies, breads and other baked goods. There’s something for every taste.”

“Our Book Nook has many nearly new and gently used books and digital media!” says Steven Moore. “Children’s, non-fiction, fiction, mysteries and self-help. Plus DVDs, vinyl, CDs, and videocassettes – all reasonably priced.”

The Country Café is run by Church Member Savi Semon.. Our deliciously appetizing lunch menu consists of homemade soups, sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs and desserts, and of course, liver and onions.

“A large creative group of crafters and vendors are here, offering knitted toys, floral decorations, purses, backpacks, harvest items, jewelry, handmade scarves and holiday items” says Allison Becker. There’s also a Plant Shop and jewelry crafted by the Grace Members and Music Director, Kristen Mosher.

“Who doesn’t like a bargain?” says Diane Schyhol. She has been busy gathering everything from housewares to furniture and toys to collectibles. All items are priced to sell. If you enjoy tag sales or are looking for that long-lost special treasure, try our Twice as Nice shop. You never know!

The Gift Basket Raffle, is organized by Peggy Fernandes, the Church Office Manager. Peggy is hosting this table in memory of long time member and chair of the basket table, Doris Clark, who passed away recently. This table is always a popular highlight. “Once again, we have an amazing array of donations. Gift baskets with fun themes like Halloween, Italian dinners, gardening, movie night, and chocolate are just a few. There’s always a surprise!”

Grace Lutheran Church is very active in the community, with many charitable causes. We work to help fill the Sterling House food pantry, assist with serving dinners with different parishes in Bridgeport, provide clothing to the homeless, and work with Habitat for Humanity.

Our Friendly Folks group has senior church members and friends meeting monthly for lunch, friendly conversation and fun.

Grace’s Music Program under the masterful direction of Kristen Mosher, is an integral part of our worship and outreach to the community. We create opportunities for both children and adults in our vocal and bell choirs.
