Woman, 91, dies after attack by her own dog

UPDATED, CORRECTED NOV. 18, 4:21 P.M. The 91-year old Stratford woman who was bitten and badly injured by her own dog on Nov. 14, died late this morning today, Nov. 18, at Bridgeport Hospital, according to hospital spokesman John Cappiello.

The name of the deceased woman is Stella Antanaitis, Cappiello confirmed.

According to Stratford Police Capt. Paul DosSantos Antanaitis intervened in a fight between her mediam-size, keeshond-mix dog and her Himalayan cat, and the dog starting biting Antanaitis.

DosSantos said that the dog, which is impounded at Stratford Animal Control, will be tested and likely euthanized.

The police report states that on Nov. 14, Stratford emergency personnel responded to a Judith Terrace residence on the report of a dog bite that occurred in the home. Upon arrival emergency personnel encountered a 91- year old victim with severe injuries to her upper extremities caused by the victim’s dog.

The victim was transported to Bridgeport Hospital.
