Editorial: In the dark with dog park

Yes, it’s true, summer arrived, and progress on some issues may slow.

People go away on vacation, and action may be postponed. It is understandable.

At the same time, when a status update about the development of a dog park is not available from any of many sources, we wonder who is steering the project.

It seems that Stratford Animal Rescue Society (STARS) succeeded in putting a halt to the approval process for land that had been recommended by the Planning Commission and reviewed with no objection by the town attorney. The Town Council requested additional work by the Parks and Recreation Committee and the town attorney before it was to have a final vote on the dog park site in June, and those tasks were completed.

The merits of STARS’ objection to the approved site we will leave to the animal experts.

The planning of an alternative site, however, after effectively halting an approved site, would be better if it were open for discussion.

Halting a town-approved plan and then leaving town leaders and media in the dark is not a preferred process.
