Three schools get new principal

Stratford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Janet Robinson revealed last week that several elementary school level principals would be shifting schools or positions.

Robinson confirmed last week that Koren Paul, currently the principal of Chapel Street Elementary School, will become principal of Stratford Academy Honeyspot House. Honeyspot is scheduled to move to the new facility being built on the same campus in September 2015 and change its name to Victoria Soto School.

Principal Patricia Mattera, current principal of Stratford Academy-Honeyspot House, will be leaving the district to take a position with the Norwalk Public Schools, Robinson said. The available position was posted publicly, but “it came down to internal candidates.”

The current principal of Eli Whitney Elementary School, Carla Armistead, fills the vacancy of principal of Chapel Street. Robinson said Armistead and her current administrative assistant / vice principal, James Marciano, would be moving together “as a team” to Chapel, at Armistead’s request.

The current vice principal of Chapel Street and district curriculum coordinator, Victoria Florek, was hired to fill the position of principal at Eli Whitney, Robinson said. Florek is joined by Patrick Stirk as her assistant. Stirk is the assistant principal of Stratford Academy-Johnson House.

A replacement for Stirk at Johnson House has not been named.
