Virginia Corbin Curtin

Virginia Corbin Curtin, 84, of Wilton, wife of the late Frederick W. Curtin, died Feb. 3, in Bridgeport Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with terminal illness. Her daughter, Karen Ruiz and her husband, Emilio live in Stratford.


 

Raised in the greater Boston area, Mrs. Curtin had resided in parts of Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and the Chicago region before settling in Wilton 46 years ago. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Always one to stay active in life, Virginia enjoyed her involvement in many local clubs for dancing, Tai Chi, tennis, painting, yoga, reading, and cooking, her family said. Believing in the importance of giving back to her community, she was a food serving volunteer at the Ogden House.

Spending time with her family and friends gave Virginia the most joy. She especially liked to travel with them on vacations to Bermuda, Newport and Cape Cod.

Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Mellinger, and her husband, Mell, of Fairfield; Karen Ruiz, and her husband, Emilio, of Stratford; Paula Logan, and her husband, Michael, of Southport; her grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Mellinger, of Fairfield, Christopher, Collin, and Michael Logan, of Southport; one brother, Jack Corbin, and his wife, Ann, of New Hampshire; one sister, Joan Walsh, and her husband, Milton, of Massachusetts; a brother-in-law, Frank McGovern, of Massachusetts; nieces and nephews, Tim, Gregg, and Erin Corbin, Kim, Glenn, Mark, and Kara Walsh, Brian and Lynn McGovern; and several friends.

She also was predeceased by her parents, John and Agnes Fay Corbin; and one sister, Jane McGovern.

Visiting hours are Monday, Feb. 6, 4-8 p.m., Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield. Services, Tuesday, Feb. 7, 9:15 a.m., in the funeral home, and 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 147 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Norwalk.
