Republicans dominate Town Council elections

Republicans took firm control of Town Hall Tuesday, building an 8-2 majority on the Town Council.
“It’s a great night to be a Republican in Stratford,” Chris Silhavey, collecting information and overseeing the gathering at the Frog Pond, told the party faithful present.
The GOP had a 6-4 majority on the council that holds its last meeting Monday, Nov. 14, and added two seats to that.
New Town Council, boards to take shape Tuesday

Tuesday, Nov. 8, is Election Day. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Stratford schools are closed on Election Day.
Voters will choose candidates for municipal offices: Town Council, Board of Education, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and constables.
Stratford had 30,436 registered voters as of Oct. 26. Of those, 9,724 are Democrats, 5,772 are Republicans, 14,849 are unaffiliated, and 91 are classified as “others,” according to the registrars of voters.
Second public safety union backs Dempsey for council
Republican incumbent John Dempsey has been endorsed by a second public safety union in his bid for re-election in the 5th Town Council District.
Stratford Police Union Local 407 Thursday announced its endorsement of Dempsey.
Dempsey thus far is the only candidate endorsed by any union. He is running against Democrat Olivia Gombar.
