Foul woes slow action (Sterling House hoop)

In recent action in the Sterling House High School Basketball League’s Varsity Division, Bridge Academy was knocked from the ranks of the undefeated at the hands of Jokes R Us, 51-45, as the game was a foul fest, as the officials handed out 44 violations.
Bryan Castelot tallied 10 points for the winners, while Ricardo Alcover scored 13 points for Bridge Academy.
Two other laughers were played in the Varsity Division, with the Tropics topping the Pride 54-34 and the Wetnets besting South Beach 43-22.
Leading scorers were John Amoroso for the Tropics with 24 points, and A.J. Hernandez for the Wetnets with 15 markers.
In Junior Varsity play, Big B and the Rest defeated the Knicks 49-20, as Dan DellaVecchia scored16 points for the winners.
Ballislife remained undefeated with a 42-34 win over UConn.
Bryan Lesperance had 13 points for Ballislife and Angel Diaz had 10 points for UConn.
In a tight tilt, Tune Squad nipped the Dream Team 35-32.
Michael Gentile continued his torrid scoring pace with 15 points for Tune Squad.
John DoCarmo chipped in with 13 points for the Dream Team.
Two games are scheduled for tomorrow night. At 6:10, the JV Division features a match between UConn and Big B and the Rest followed at 7:20 by a Varsity tilt between Reckless and the Wetnets.
In earlier JV action, the Knicks and UConn were tied at 36 with under a minute to go when Brian Valeriano of the Knicks tossed up a three-point try, which was no good but he was fouled.
With ice water in his veins, Valeriano stepped to the foul line and sank all three charity shots on the way to a 40-36 Knicks’ victory.
Valeriano was high scorer with 19 points. Isaiah Fonseca paced UConn with 14 points.
In other JV action, Big B and the Rest ran roughshod over the Tune Squad 40-18, as Milo Mitchell pumped in 16 points.
Ballislife topped the Dream Team, 52-25.
DoCarmo took game honors with 14 points for the Dream Team. Hector Sanchez scored a dozen for Ballislife.
In the Varsity Division, Reckless put together a late charge to upend South Beach 44-38.
James Murphy and Kurtis Mudre each had 12 points for Reckless, while Daniel Green and Kyle Gabris each hit 10 for South Beach.
Weather postponed games the weekend of Jan. 14. The scheduled Junior Varsity games will be made up Feb. 18. The date for the Varsity game make ups will be announced.
