The Stratford Brakettes celebrated their 70th anniversary with Reunion Weekend, now it’s time to head to the Midwest for their first road there since capturing the 2003 ASA National Championship.
The Brakettes depart Wednesday and they will play 12 games in five days.
Bringing a 29-2 overall record into Wednesday’s 7 p.m. doubleheader at Competition Complex in Normal, IL., site of several national and international tournaments, the team will then play the Lady Rage of East Peoria at Eastside Centre Thursday at 7 p.m. in another twinbill.
Pekin is the destination Friday for two games with the Pekin Lettes at Metamora High School, starting at 7:30 p.m. before the Brakettes compete in the City of Pekin Championship tournament Saturday and Sunday.
Manager John Stratton club will face the St. Louis Saints and Lady Rage in pool play before bracket play starts Saturday afternoon.
The Brakettes defeated Team Connecticut by 11-0 last Friday to open the Reunion Weekend festivities. In the Home Run Derby, Elise Fortier defeated current Brakettes shortstop Emily Lochten, 2-1, in the sudden death round to capture the crown.
The New York City Havoc rallied from a 4-2 deficit to score three runs in the top of the sixth en route to a 5-4 win over the Brakettes. Patti Sciglimpaglia (9-1) was the losing pitcher. Lochten led the Brakettes with a home run.
On Sunday, Lochten again homered and drove in another run as the Brakettes blanked the Havoc by 4-0. Tatum Buckley allowed only two hits and retired the side in order from the fourth inning on.
The Brakettes next home action is Friday, July 22, against the CT. Seahawks 23U team, which is part of the Brakettes Invitational. The first game counts toward the tournament standings, while the teams also play a second game at 9 p.m.
The six-team tourney continues Saturday with the Brakettes playing at 4:30 and 7 p.m.
Manager John Stratton’s club will not compete Sunday in the single-elimination format because it is playing the Bridgeport Bluefish in the Battle of the Sexes III at 7:05 p.m. that evening.
Tickets for the exhibition are $8, when purchased from the Brakettes. They will be on sale July 22 and 23 at DeLuca Field or you may reserve them by contacting the Brakettes office at 203-378-7262.
