Beatrice R. (Harotian) Piligian, age 88, of Stratford, passed away January 25, 2013 in her home.
Mrs. Piligian was born in New Britain, CT to Takvor and Nevart Harotian. She was raised in the Armenian community of St. Stephen’s Church in New Britain where her family was very active.
She graduated from New Britain High School and met her husband Carnig Piligian. They shared a love of dance and of all things Armenian. Before raising her family she worked for the Merriam Webster Company in Springfield, MA.
Bea was a dedicated mother who served as a role model to her children stressing the importance of faith and commitment. She was a longtime member of the Armenian Relief Society and the Ladies Guild of her beloved St. Gregory’s Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years, and served on countless committees.
After living in Ludlow, MA for many years she moved to Fairfield, CT. She quickly became an active member of the Armenian Church of the Holy Ascension in Trumbull, CT.
Bea loved gardening, the beach at Cape Cod and entertaining family and friends. Faith, family and friends were of utmost importance. She led by her example, teaching her family the value of a strong faith and the meaning of love.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Carnig Piligian and her brother Harry Harotian.
She will be greatly missed by her devoted children Priscilla(James ) Altoonian of Norfolk, MA; Stepan (Susan) Piligian of Westford, MA, Linda(John) McGann of Fairfield, CT and Sandra (Joseph) Villante of West Roxbury, MA; her caring sister Mildred Arslanian of Northampton, MA; ten loving grandchildren; two cherished great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Armenian Church of the Holy Ascension 1460 Huntington Turnpike Trumbull, CT 06611. Prayer service at 7:00 pm. with Father Untzag Nalbandian officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at St. Gregory Armenian Church 135 Goodwin St. Indian Orchard, MA. 01151. Friends may greet the family at church on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Springfield, MA.
