A robbery at a Stratford video game store set off a chase that ended in Bridgeport with shots fired Sunday, Jan. 27.
GameStop, in the strip of stores at 411 Barnum Ave. Cutoff, was robbed at 5:39 p.m., according to scanner transmissions cited by Doing It Local.
The suspects fled on I-95 South, which is behind the store, to Bridgeport. Police pursued a vehicle off I-95 onto East Main Street, past Nichols and Howe Street, to Steuben Street. It appears there that the suspects doubled back toward I-95, with the chase finally ending on Nichols Street east of Pembroke Street.
During the subsequent search, shots were fired. There are conflicting reports whether shots were fired at one of Stratford’s Police dogs, or by police at an aggressive dog.
Shortly before 7 p.m. at least a dozen marked Bridgeport and Stratford police cars filled Nichols Street. A yellow flashing light from a truck sent to haul away the vehicle cut through the darkness, as neighbors crowded yards to see what was happening.
More details will be posted as they become available.
