Eric Rankin scored 24 points and Marcus Vereen had 22 markers when coach Paul Dudzinski’s Stratford High boys basketball team defeated New Milford in a South-West Conference contest at the Ed Needham Gymnasium in Stratford on Friday night.
New Milford (4-6) bolted to a 10-3 lead, but after a timeout, the Red Devils (6-3) started to take away avenues to the lane and narrowed the deficit to 19-15 after one quarter.
Stratford’s defense limited New Milford to one basket, and four points, and dominated the second period 22-14 to take a healthy 37-23 lead into the half.
Rankin had 10 of his points in the run, with Emmanuel Young and Sam Breiner knocking down 3-pointers.
Stratford didn’t let up in the third stanza, as it outscored the Green Wave by a 21-5 margin, with Vereen scoring 10 points.
