Looking back

It seems like the year flew by, especially these last few months.

Maybe that was because of Hurricane Sandy and more recently the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Both were devastating events we’d like to forget if forgetting could make things right.

Suddenly the New Year is upon us, and visions of happier times ahead should be filling our heads. It’s only right to look forward, but there’s no telling what the New Year will bring.

And for once, maybe we shouldn’t be in such a hurry to move on. There is still plenty of work to be done concerning 2012.

Many still remain homeless after Superstorm Sandy. It may take many more months and maybe even years for our communities and neighbors to rebuild. Federal and state agencies can only do so much.

Sometimes the support of a friend, neighbor or family member can make all the difference in the world. Lend a hand where you can.

Connecticut will never be the same after the Sandy Hook shooting. It’s likely no one will ever forget that great a loss, nor should they.

During this time of year, when we are often focused on giving, many have stepped up to give even more. In small ways and large, every effort to comfort those afflicted by the shootings has made a difference.

So yes, as we move on let’s also look back and never forget 2012.
